Boulder Police Unveil New Autism Decal Program

The Boulder Police Department has launched Colorado's first Autism Decal Program to improve interactions between officers and individuals with autism. Vehicles or homes displaying the decals will alert officers that someone associated may be autistic, allowing for better understanding and response to behaviors that might otherwise be misinterpreted.

Spearheaded by Chief of Staff Alastair McNiven, in collaboration with local autism organizations, the program includes both puzzle piece and infinity symbol decals to honor diverse community preferences. Feedback from the community is encouraged to refine the initiative, which aims to ensure safer, more informed interactions between law enforcement and neurodivergent individuals.
